I have been commissioned by festivals worldwide, create a space that is almost otherworldly. A simple design multiplied many times over can produce a magical effect. Crowds of paper characters come alive in unexpected places – foxes cluster in the snow, waterlilies light up a lake. With these projects I aim to create a Japanese version of Wonderland, made out of paper. If I were Alice, I would never have left Wonderland and I believe that although we all grow up, everyone secretly wishes they could return there too.
